Provider Monitoring
The LME is required by North Carolina Administrative Code 27G.0601 to conduct monitoring of providers. All contracted providers will have an on-site monitoring no less than one time per year. The LME may conduct more frequent and/or unannounced monitoring visits as needed. For more information about the monitoring process, please refer to the Provider Operations Manual.

Frequency & Extent of Monitoring Tool (FEM)
As of March 1, 2007 the LME will begin to use the FEM developed by the Division as a companion to the requirement in the current 163 Monitoring rules. As the name implies, the FEM will be used to determine the frequency and extent of regular scheduled local monitoring of provider agencies. The FEM will be completed following the LME endorsement review for new providers and will be updated on an annual basis.
